Eat: I Can Lick 30 Tigers Today Pops {Part 4 in our Tell Me a Story Series)

Did you know that March 2 is Dr. Seuss' birthday? No, well now you do. And since he was such a good storyteller (I still love to read his stories), I thought it was appropriate to celebrate him in the midst of our storytelling series. (You can also check out the other Seuss things we did last year: Mulberry Street personalization, Wocket, freezer paper stenciling, Dr. Seuss inspired snacks, Gooey Goo taffy, Apple Messy Play).

So today, I'm looking at a Dr. Seuss book that I don't have much experience with, but is a fun book, I Can Lick 30 Tigers Today.

And with a title like that, I had to make some tigers that I would be okay with my children (and friends) licking.

So, I made tiger pops!

These were really easy to put together, and they were a hit. Look at all the licking going on here!

To make these, I got a candy mold from JoAnn, but you can find them at most craft stores. I wanted a plain circle one, but all they had were smiley face ones, so I worked with that.

First, I melted some chocolate candy wafers and piped it into the face of the tiger and a few stripes. If I had to do it again, I'd make the stripes a little different, maybe layering it over the face with a lighter brown. But I think it still turned out okay.

Then I filled the mold in with the melted orange candy wafers and stuck a lollipop stick in.

I added ears after the pops had cooled, but I think it would be more appropriate to do it right away. I just drew triangles with the orange candy melts.

And then I gave it to my kid to eat. Easy peasy, but fun and delicious.

It's amazing what you can do with a book and a little creativity.
