Play: Magic Bananas

We chose bananas for the fruit of the spirit for gentleness because if you're not gentle with a banana...well, banana mush anyone?

So to have a little fun with bananas, and practice your skill of being gentle, I'm going to teach you a little magic trick: how to slice a banana without peeling it.

First, you start with a banana. I love when they get speckly, but I realized later that it may have been better to do this trick with a slightly less ripe banana.

Then, you need a long needle.

Along one of the outside seams (you know, the part where the banana naturally splits when you peel it), poke the needle into the banana so that it is reaching the other side of the banana but not piercing through.

Then gently sweep the needle from one side to the other. This makes the cut.

Then pull the needle out and repeat as many times as you would like.

If you look closely, you can see the little pin pricks where I stabbed the banana. But if you had a slightly firmer banana, I don't think you'd be able to tell as well. Plus, when you give this to someone, they aren't exactly expecting to see pricks in their banana peel, so you're good.

Then give this banana to an unsuspecting person.

It a magically sliced banana.

And since it's already sliced, it's great for sharing,

And just because we love Raffi in our house, enjoy a little Banana phone!

  1. Actually, speckly is when you want to eat a banana, not before. ^_^

Cute! I will definitely have to try this with the kids. I'd never thought of doing this before. :-D

    1. Jacob would definitely disagree with you there. He likes his bananas a little green. Yuck! :p
But you should definitely try it. If Jacob was impressed, I'm sure your kids will be wowed!
